Ricky Nolasco shines as Florida Marlins defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 – MLB Update
Ricky Nolasco outplayed the Pittsburgh Pirates' offence on Wednesday, April 20 to score a resplendent 6-0 victory for Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Miami.
Nolasco pitched seven shut-out innings emboldened by an unstoppable offence of his team which outmaneuvered the Pirates. "Any time you get an early lead like that and all that run support, you just want to get those guys in the dugout as fast as possible,"
Nolasco said. "I was just trying to throw as many strikes as I could, get quick innings and get us back in the dugout."
Ricky came out to pitch in the first inning faced by Jose Tabata. From the very start, Nolasco put tremendous efforts to not let any Pittsburgh batter take him on aggressively. He succeeded in his apparently flawless strategy while the Marlins’ batters did
their part.
The game remained scoreless until the second inning when the Marlins’ batters put their shoulders to the wheel and got moving. Charlie Morton’s fastballs seemed to have lost their pace when Chris Coghlan came on the plate, as he reached on an infield single
where John Buck and Emilio Bonifacio scored the first run for the Marlins.
Nolasco was not only good with his unhittable fast balls, but he did it on the offence as well. With their account opened, in the very same inning, Omar Infante singled to centre where Nolasco ran to third, Coghlan to second and Ricky scored. Hanley Ramirez
singled to right where Coghlan scored once again, Infante running to second.
Five hits and four runs in the second inning provided the best possible start to the Marlins which did not commit any mistakes that could culminate with their paying a price for it. While Ricky was leaving the Pittsburgh batters confused as to what to do
next, Marlins’ batters came down hard on Charlie Morton once again.
Emilio Bonifacio singled to left where Greg Dobbs scored, making it 5-0 for the Marlins. Chris Coghlan followed, as he singled to right where Mike Stanton scored the sixth run, making it practically impossible for Pittsburgh to make a come-back.
Edward Mujica who replaced Nolasco in the eighth inning did not allow Pittsburgh to even open their account. Pittsburgh remained scoreless up until last inning when Mujica incapacitated their batters, putting things in perfect order of a great 6-0 win for
Florida Marlins.
