Ricky Nolasco shines as Florida Marlins defeat San Francisco Giants 2-1 - MLB Update

Florida Marlins’ starter, Ricky Nolasco had a terrific day with his pitching as he threw eight innings and gifted just one run including one walk in the Marlins’ 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on August 12.
First inning was the only one in which the two teams put some runs on score-board while the rest of eight innings were score-less. At the top of first inning, Giants’ batters added one run to get off the mark while the Marlins contributed two runs to take
a 2-1 lead, at the bottom of first inning.
Pablo Sandoval hit a solo homer (381 feet) towards right-field to give the Giants an initial lead. On the other side, Logan Morrison drove a triple-run shot to deep right-centre and Alfredo Amezaga posted a single run. The second or the leading run for Marlins
was taken by Morrison when Mike Stanton singled off left-centre.
In fifth inning, Giants’ batters missed some scoring chances as Matt Cain reached towards short-stop on an infield single while Eli Whiteside popped out to second base and Andres Torres struck-out without scoring any run. At the bottom of seventh inning,
Ben Petersen moved to second base on an infield single but at the left-field, Emilio Bonifacio flied out and Nolasco struck-out.
Nolasco permitted six hits, one home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 3.72. He struck-out four batters on his 109 pitches. Speaking to reporters, Nolasco said, “The defence will make better plays when you throw more strikes. I was trying to do that
and keep them on their toes.”
Marlins’ centre-fielder, Dewayne Wise said, “I thought, 'Oh my god, with the way we've been playing this homestand' ... As I was falling I was saying, 'I've got to catch it.' If I don't, it's a tie game at least, and we're probably still playing.”
Giants seemed immobilised throughout the game as the batters played lazy shots and got out. During ninth inning, Sandoval singled off centre-field while Aubrey Huff flied out to right-field, Orlando Cabrera struck-out swinging and Cody Ross flied out to
centre-field.
After having an exciting win, Marlins were able to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series played at Florida.
