The veteran returned Sydney to his home after first Test to attend the birth of his second child. In the first Test match, the tourists, under the leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, have been successful in securing a 125-run win over
the hosts.
On the opening day game of the first Test, Ponting hit a useful 44 runs off 83 balls, including six fours.
Ponting stepped down from the captaincy after the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Cup 2011, where he guided his side to the quarter-final stage of the tournament. Although, he said good bye to captaincy, he still continued

"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 was right to retain his services after he stepped down as captain. Although he has been short of runs lately, he still looks capable of prospering in the highest company. Not that he needs to score lots to justify his
place," Roebuck stated in his column.
The Aussies has called http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 into the squad in order to fill the place vacated by Ponting.
"Challengers are not exactly thick on the ground. Shaun Marsh, his replacement, is 28 and averages 37 in first-class cricket," he added.

The right-handed batsman led a brilliant cricketing career not only as a skipper but also as a batsman. Batting in 261 Test innings, Ponting has scored 12411 runs at an average of 53.26, including 39 centuries and 56 fifties.
The 36-year-old has scored 13602 runs, while batting in 357 ODI innings at an average of 42.77, including 30 centuries and 81 fifties.
Ponting is likely to join his team in the third Test match against Sri Lanka at Colombo.
