http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 to bat higher up the batting order to give himself a better chance to anchor an innings.
The Kangaroos, who ruled the cricketing world in the late 1990s and the initial half of the previous decade, are miserably struggling to deliver the goods at the highest stage of the game these days. They were whitewashed in a four-match Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750
earlier this year and have already lost the opening two Tests of the on-going Ashes in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
While Australia’s bowlers are doing their job consistently, it is their batting line-up which is not being able to cope with the bowlers of the highest quality.
The Baggy Greens’ top-order has consistently failed to provide any kind of stability to the team, which is the reason why Ponting, in his column for The Daily Mail, advised the Australian skipper to bat at number four.
Ponting, who is considered to be one of the greatest batsmen of the history of Australian cricket, has no doubt in his mind that Clarke is the country’s best batsman at the moment.
“One thing Australia must have is stability, particularly in their batting order. Clarke was back at five having been at four at Trent Bridge, which led to other players like Phil Hughes being moved too, and I believe that your best player should be at three
or four,” said the former Australian captain.
The former cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 further added that he wanted the right-hander to bat at number four when he was in charge of the team but if Clarke is not comfortable at four, he should continue to bat at five.
He added, “I moved Michael to four a few years ago because I thought it would be for the betterment of him and the team when it became clear he was becoming our best player, but if he feels that it is best to be at five, that's where he needs to bat.”
With three matches still to be played in the series, the Kangaroos would love to make a strong comeback in the battle.
