Ricky Ponting apologises, Gujarat Cricket Association adamant to report to BCCI
Ricky Ponting might have apologized for smashing the LCD television set in the Australian dressing room during a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) over the issue.
"We shall be lodging a complaint with the BCCI about the smashing of LCD television set kept in the Australian team's dressing room here", Rajesh Patel, the Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary told media reporters today.
Patel said that the BCCI will then forward the complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take a final decision on the issue.
When asked about the loss GCA has faced due to the incident, Patel said that the LCD TV set was worth over Rs 35,000 adding, "This not fair on part of the Australian team".
Earlier, the media manager for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 batsman had immediately apologized for the incident and has asked the authorities for replacement.
The incident occurred during the World Cup clash between Australia and Zimbabwe on Monday, 21 February when the Australian skipper was run out for 28 off Chris Mpofu’s direct hit.
The enraged Aussie captain allegedly smashed the television, showing a replay of his dismissal, with his bat after entering the dressing room.
Cricket Australia, however, have described the reports as an ultimate exaggeration of what actually happened in the dressing room and have denied the reports of damage to the LCD.
“This is severely exaggerated reporting and very unfortunate”, said Cricket Australia in a statement. “Ricky Ponting did not break the TV set in the dressing room in Ahmedabad, rather his protectors bounced off his bag and struck the TV, but no damage was caused”.
Ponting, is unlikely to face any disciplinary action, an ICC source has claimed.
However, Ponting’s former teammate, Matthew Hayden was fined 20 per cent of his match fee and was severely scolded as well when he was charged with breaking a glass panel in the dressing room after being caught in the fifth match of 2002-03 Ashes Test series against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
