Ricky Ponting asks Australian batsmen to play spin better
Australian captain Ricky Ponting has urged his batsmen to improve their game against quality spin bowling.
Ponting’s advice came after Australia’s dramatic loss in the warm-up game against India when the Aussie batsmen were dumbfounded against the Indian spinners, bundling out in 38 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 wreaked havoc on Australian batsmen, bowling them out for a total of 176 runs.
The last nine Australian wickets fell within a space of 58 runs, and all of those were shared by the Indian spin bowlers.
Ponting said, “The pitch was under-prepared, It was an unusual ODI wicket and I don't remember the last one-day wicket I've played on that spun that much. You have to find a way sometimes to combat good spin bowling on tough conditions like that.”
The Australian captain added, “Who knows as the tournament goes on, we could face conditions like that somewhere else, and I would like to think that we can play a lot better. Otherwise, we can't win. Hopefully some of the younger guys in the middle order
can learn a little bit about starting in tough conditions.”
He also suggested that the batsmen should have applied and played themselves in on a turning pitch. The middle-order batsmen looked completely out of sorts against the flight and guile of Indian spinners.
Nevertheless, there was a one positive aspect for the Kangaroos, as Ponting celebrated his return with a measured 57. The right-hander applied himself well on the track, used his feet against the spinners and looked an in-form batsman.

The Australian batsmen have to step up their game in order to defend their title. They must display an all-round batting performance in order to dominate their oppositions.
