Ricky Ponting believes selectors are transparent with players, if not with public – Cricket News Update
Former Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-John-Inverarity-c85980, and the selection panel, backing their decision amidst criticism from
former cricketers, notably Steve Waugh.
Regular skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, left the management in a tough spot in regards to his deputy for the upcoming fixture against Sri Lanka, scheduled
for Feb 17, at Sydney.
Despite having options such as ODI vice captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Rodger-Waugh-c91216, who asked the panel to be more transparent
and explain its stand to the public.
"I was surprised when they said [Haddin] was rested. He basically said he was dropped. There's mixed messages there. If he's rested, why doesn't he come back in and be the captain? I'm not sure what it is but it's a bit confusing and it would be good for
someone to clear it up," stated Waugh, soon after Ponting’s appointment was announced.
However, the 37-year-old veteran of two World Cup titles, Ponting, defended the selection panel, which was put together after the Argus Report, which recommended mainstream changes in Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in order to restore the country’s cricket to its former
glory. Punter shared that his communication with the panel has been good, and he believes it is more transparent with the players, as opposed to the public - perhaps the reason behind the mixed signals.
Speaking about Haddin, Ponting said that the 34-year-old wicketkeeper batsman is clear about his standing, and decisions that are affecting him have probably been explained to him in person.
"I think he actually has been given that [explanation], face-to-face," said Ponting.
Inverarity has been under-fire for not explaining his decisions since he was appointed as the Chief Selector of Cricket Australia in October 2011, replacing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498, as recommended by the Argus report. The former Test and First-class cricketer has
been sporting a rotational policy for the Australian playing XI, which according to him will signal transparency -indicative of players’ potentials.
Recently, the Aussie side has been on the rise, and is currently engaged in the Commonwealth Bank Series, where they have won two out of their three matches, against the likes of India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
