http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians skipper Ricky Ponting, on Monday blamed his bowlers for the comprehensive nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Daredevils here at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi on Sunday, April 21, 2013.
Chasing a competitive target of 162, the Daredevils rode on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739’s belligerent 95-run knock to register their maiden win in the 2013 edition of the lucrative Indian Premier League. The hosts comfortably chased down the target with three overs to spare and nine wickets intact.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, the Mumbai side rode on impressive half century knocks from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 to post a formidable total of 161 for 4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. But the half-centuries from Tendulkar and Sharma went in vain after Sehwag blasted an unbeaten 95 to help his side get past the line comfortably with 3 overs to spare. The former Australian skipper admitted that his bowlers erred in their lines to both Sehwag and Mahela and were made to pay for that
While speaking to media reporters after the defeat, Ponting said that his bowlers gave the Delhi http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Anthony-Hibbert-c81005 too many scoring opportunities and let him take the game away from the tourists.
“I think we could have stopped Sehwag from getting off to the kind of start he got off to. With someone like Virender, what's important is to tuck him up at the start,” said Ponting.
“If we put pressure early in the innings, he generally has a tendency to play a big shot to release the pressure. But today we gave him too many scoring options early on and let him get away. Before we knew it, he was 30 and so was Mahela. When you give class players easy opportunities like that, you'll be punished and that is what happened today,” he added further.
Ponting also had a word of praise for Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, for their fine half-centuries that helped Mumbai recover from a precarious position of 24/2 in 6 overs. Mumbai will next play KKR in Kolkata on Wednesday, April 23, 2103.
