Ricky Ponting calls for reassessment of domestic cricket structure
Australian Captain Ricky Ponting has called for a reassessment of the country’s domestic structure. Ponting believes that the standard of cricket in Australia has declined and definitely needs a review. His comments come after his sides 3-1 Ashes defeat
at the hands of England.
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) is going to hold a review of what went wrong in recently concluded Ashes series, where England managed innings victories over their Arch-rivals in three of the five Test matches. The Australian skipper wants the whole examination to
be thorough, so that Australia can learn from their past mistakes and avoid repeating them in the future.
Ponting wrote in a column, “The performance of the elite team over the past few weeks has been very disappointing. But I think it's important we look a fair bit deeper into Australian cricket than just the last couple of weeks. It's going to be really interesting
to see what the review brings up.”
He added, “I think the whole structure of Australian cricket needs looking at. We've got to look at our state cricket. I'm not sure that is as strong as we need it to be. We've got to look at the reasons why.”
Recently, the Kangaroos have performed poorly in Test matches. They lost their first home series against England in 24 years. In their last nine matches, they have only recorded two victories, which also includes a drawn series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in England.
Australia is still the number one ranked one-day side in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings. However, they have lost their last two one-day international (ODI) series. It also includes a home series defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Nevertheless, Ricky has been one of the greatest-ever Australian to wear a Baggy-green and currently, he is the most successful captain in the history of Test cricket with 47 wins. Under his captaincy, the Kangaroos have also won two successive Worlds Cups.
The Tasmanian also urged CA to look back into club cricket to reveal what measures should be taken to improve the quality of cricket at the junior level. These days, the country’s first-class cricket is not producing top-notch Test cricketers.  It is one
of the reasons for Australia’s slump to the number five position in the Test rankings.
