Australian batting legend, Ricky Ponting, has backed Cricket Australia’s rotational policy and further hit out at critics by asserting that the only way to manage the workload of young fast bowlers is to give them periodic rest.
His views came after former Aussie pacers in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 was left out of the Boxing Day Test, despite being in perfect shape to take the field.
Starc further tweeted that he was shattered with his omission from the match after the management took a cautious approach in the wake of the team’s mounting list of injuries. The Aussies had lost http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 even before the start of the
current home summer, and had to do without the services of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 through injury and extended workload.
Pattinson injured himself during the second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, which forced Hilfenhaus and Siddle to carry the bulk of the bowling. That extra physical exertion proved fatal as both men missed the deciding clash at Perth, which the Proteas went onto
win.
Starc featured in that match, and then took the field for the opening Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 to declare that Starc will miss the ongoing Boxing Day clash as the management
is eager to monitor his workload, further assuring the young fast bowler that he will play the subsequent final Test of the series.
Despite the rotational system not going down well with some of the former Aussie players, Ponting was keen to draw the line on the whole situation.
"It actually annoys me a little bit," he said of the criticism."There are a lot of people who are talking about it that probably don't need to be talking about it to tell you the truth.
"A lot of the people that are talking about it, past bowlers in particular, have got no idea of the workload of some of the guys that are playing now.
"People from the outside can make opinions on it all they like. But until it starts coming from within, then people should just mind their own business I reckon."
