http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 eager to continue playing after extended break – Cricket News Update
Veteran Australian batsman, Ricky Ponting, has admitted that while the prospect of an upcoming extended break is an alien concept for him, he is determined to continue playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
“I've known for a while that was going to be the case, to have a relatively long break like I've got coming up for a while and for 20 years it's been pretty unusual for me to get a break of that length,” he said.
Ponting is currently in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 where he has been part of the playing XI for the Test series. His form has been keenly monitored ever since he was axed from the national ODI squad in the middle of the Commonwealth Bank series in February this year,
after registering disappointing scores of 6, 2, and 7.
With his limited-overs career having been brought to an indefinite halt, the right-hander resolved to focus his energy solely on his Test career. He also joined his domestic side, the Tasmanian Tigers, for a brief stint in the domestic circuit, and registered
impressive scores of 75, 130, and 111.
His apparent return to form prompted the selectors to include him in the squad for the Test series, but his scores of 4 and 14 in the first match were far from promising. He started the second match on a similar note, posting 7 runs during the first innings
of the second Test, but followed that up with a 41, which suggested that the veteran batsman was tapping into his form and regaining his rhythm.
Ponting is due to play the final Test of the series at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, from April 23-27, after which the Aussie team has no upcoming Test matches for the remainder of the year.
The 37-year old, who made his debut in 1995 as a 17-year-old, has been playing cricket for nearly all of his adult life. The upcoming break, while being something he is most probably not used to, may enable him to spend more time with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 and work on
regaining his form.
“My love for the game and passion and desire to be successful hasn't changed at all,” he said, expressing the intent to continue playing for the national side. “Even when things were really tough a few months ago, all I wanted to do was try … I feel like
I'm batting really well at the moment.”
