''The professionalism he brought to the group is something that has been overlooked,'' The Sydney Morning Herald quoted the former skipper, as saying.
Lee announced his sudden retirement last week on his return from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 where he suffered a calf injury in the fourth One Day International (ODI) during the NatWest series at Chester-le-Street.
However, Lee’s career was one that became a source of admiration for a generation of pace bowlers, achieving remarkable success during his 14-year international stint.
After his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and also the second highest ODI wicket-taker for his country. He took 310 scalps (30.81) in 76 Test and 380 wickets (at 23.36) in 221
matches.
He was the star of the all-conquering Australian team led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, and the former skipper is among those few players who closely watched the trials and tribulations of the pace man, while still having him performing day in and day out.
''He had certain times in his career when he didn't have a drink for 12 months, or when he was in the gym for every minute that he wasn't bowling, whether that was coming back from injury or just trying to keep himself as fit and strong as he possibly could,”
Ponting said.
“You knew he was busting his backside every ball. Most of the time, you knew he was in a bit of pain, but he kept charging in and doing whatever I wanted him to do,'' the former captain further added.
Lee, 35, has however, expressed his desire to continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL).
