Ricky Ponting is the only player on the Australian touring squad to have played a Test in Sri Lanka: Cricket News Update
Australian veteran, former skipper, and team’s star batsman, Ricky Ponting, is the only player on the current touring squad to have played a Test match in Sri Lanka.
Although http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 was enlisted on the squad when Australia visited Sri Lanka in 2004, the current team captain missed out on his Test debut.
As for Ponting, previously the player led the Australian side to Sri Lanka as the team captain, but for the upcoming fixture, Ponting will be handing out advices to the skipper Clarke about the local Lankan arenas, since Ponting is the only player to have
a taste of the hosting grounds.
“As it turns out I think I am the only player that has played Test cricket over there so I will be giving him (Clarke) advice all over the place I think when the Test matches come around," said Ponting.
The former skipper also went on to add that the team does not need to worry about wicket conditions as it may affect the squad’s performance. Ponting stated that the tourists have some fair days to practice it out and get accustomed to the pitch, before
officially taking on the hosts.
As for the skipper, Clarke stated that the Australian side is fortunate to have Ponting on the squad, since the veteran may aid the much overhauled squad into facing one of the most potent opponents ever.

Australia’s tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 officially kicks off on August 6, when the visitors will be facing the Lankan side in the opening Twenty20 series featuring 2 matches, followed by 5 One Day International (ODI) matches from August 10 to 22, and finally the 3
Tests, spanning between August 31 and September 20.

The upcoming event, however, comes with much importance to the Australian team, following their down sliding performance during the previous seasons.
