Ricky Ponting knows that he is going to be the ‘next target’
Former Australian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA).
CA announced the list of 25 contracted players for the upcoming season earlier this month and ignored the left handed opener, in a bid to include the young blood in the Aussie team.
A number of former Australian cricketers have slammed this decision by the Australian selection panel because Katich has been a consistent performer in the longer version of the sport for the Kangaroos since last couple of years.
The 35-years old opener himself has called this decision ‘ridiculous’ and Ponting feels that Katich has all the right to show his anger as he has been doing pretty well in Test cricket.
Legendary batsman said, "It's fair to say he didn't hold back in his press conference and rightly so as well. To be omitted from the contract list was a great shock to him. It was a shock to me. I was surprised that he wasn't named. His performance in the
last two or three years has been as good as anybody's in the world."
Former Australian leg spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498 before the senior players. Former leg spinner also feels that dropping Katich will automatically mean more pressure
on the youngster who will replace him in Test cricket; most probably he is going to be Phil Hughes.
Ponting knows that the exclusion of Katich is an alarming sign for himself and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 who are also at the wrong side of 30s. However, the former captain is taking it positively for himself and said that the current situation is going to urge him
to perform even better in future.
"I would have liked to have another old bloke around the group with me. It means a young guy gets a go and hopefully that guy can stand up and do the job for us. It puts us 36 year-olds on notice now, Mike Hussey and myself. It's going to make us work that
little bit harder," said Ponting.
