Ricky Ponting smashes TV during game against Zimbabwe - ICC World Cup 2011
The Australian captain, Ricky Ponting smashed an LCD television with his bat in anger, in reaction to his run-out against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in the International Cricket World Cup 2011.
The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) reported that the incident took place right after the captain was run out by Zimbabwean fast bowler Chris Mpofu in the Group A match played on 21st February at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmadabad. The LCD screen
was not broken but the television stopped functioning when the Aussie captain struck it with his bat
The secretary of GCA said that they did inform the Australian cricket officials and the International Cricket Council about the erratic behaviour by the foreign captain, but they have not responded to the GCA as yet, neither has any apology been submitted.
Even the Australian Media manager Lachy Patterson, has been informed about the occurrence, but he stated that he has no idea about the incident.
Ricky Ponting has had problems in the past as well as he misbehaved with Aleem Dar during the Ashes 2010-11.
This rigid and immature behaviour of the Australian captain expressed his frustration, as he failed to perform well in the World Cup match against the minnows, Zimbabwe.
Ricky Ponting is definitely under a lot of pressure after scathing criticism from different ranks in the Australian cricket. Ponting and the Australian coach Tim Nielsen might lose their jobs if the Aussie team does not do well in the mega event. This might
be one of the reasons behind Pontings frustration.
This is going to be the last World Cup for the Australian captain marking the end of an illustrious career. He is the only player in the world to have played four world cup finals and won three out of them. If Australia is going to defend its title in the
mega event, it would be a hat-trick of Ponting as a world cup winning captain. Ponting has expressed his hope in the Australian pacemen to lead their team during the World Cup. Their performances, he said would be crucial to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s success in this prestigious
event.
