Ricky Ponting tags India as favourites to win ICC World Cup 2011
Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, believes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 at Ahmedabad thus ensuring that a new champion will be
crowned this time
Punter asserts that Mahindra Singh Dhoni and his men will continue the momentum and defeat their arch-rivals in the semi-finals which will be played on Wednesday, 30 March.
Aussie skipper said, “India played well as a team and deserved victory. We were not good enough (to win). Going forward they will be pretty hard to beat. They will beat Pakistan in the semi-final and go on to win the World Cup now.”
The Indians last won the tournament in 1983. However, according to the Kangaroo’s skipper the men-in-blue have a solid batting side. And if they are to win the cup after 28 years their batting will play a very crucial role. The right-hand batsman expressed
his disappointment on two consecutive losses that his side suffered in the tournament at the hands of sub-continental teams namely India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
The 36-year-old cricketer however refused the claims that Aussies domination in international cricket has ended. He concludes that it is too early to say such things.
The man who led his side to two consecutive World Cup wins said, “It's a bit premature to say it was the end of an era for Australian cricket, it was a pretty good game tonight. I do not think we were far away from winning the game against a very good Indian
team on their home soil. I think it's a bit too early to say it's the end of an era.”
Ponting and his men defeated Team India in the 2003 World Cup final to win their third trophy. However, the Indians got their revenge by eliminating the Aussies out of this version of the tournament. Yuvraj Singh stood tall once again as he inspired his
side to a five-wicket victory over their nemesis. Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and Suresh Raina fully supported Yuvraj in the run chase.
Ponting praised his opponent’s efforts and he believes that Tendulkar is at his peak and is playing the best cricket of his life. He also acknowledged the match winning partnership between Yuvraj and Raina and asserts that they controlled the innings pretty
well.
The veteran batsman also had a few sugary words for his fast bowler Brett Lee. He admired Lee’s attitude and admitted that other players in his team had the same attitude as him then Aussies would have been in much better position.
Talking about his career, Ponting made clear that he has no intentions of quitting any format of cricket. He confirmed that this was his last World Cup but he is far away from walking away from the game he has loved the most.
Some questions have been raised about his captaincy but only time will tell what the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 decide.
