Ricky Ponting to have surgery on the fractured finger tomorrow
Ricky Ponting, the injured Test skipper of Australia who had got his little finger fractured in the third Test match of the Ashes series in Perth, will have a surgery tomorrow.
Providing details of the matter, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 physiotherapist said, “Ricky had further x-rays on his fractured finger which have shown that the bone fragment has further displaced and will not heal without surgery. As such Ricky
will have surgery on Tuesday. He is expected to miss the commonwealth Bank one-day international series against England and recover in time for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup on the sub-continent.”
Ponting had developed the injury while making an attempt to have a catch by Jonathan Trott in the second slip on the third day of the match. Efforts of the skipper paid the dividends and the team successfully named the match and leveled the series by 1-1.
However, the match was followed by another battle at the Melbourne which was bagged by the visitors, who, by doing so, retained lead in the Ashes by 2-1.
Ponting, amid the injured finger had aggravated, chose to withdraw himself from the final match, and today, the Cricket Australia revealed that the player had been going to have surgery of the little finger of his left hand.
Prior to having a detailed check up of the finger, the skipper had plans of playing the final Test match in Sydney, however, the x-ray completely ruled out the chances of doing so.
In his absence, the captaincy of the Test squad has been conferred upon the seniour batsman Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 will replace him in batting capacity. If the team Australia does well in his absence, future of the injured skipper will become
further uncertain.
Otherwise regarded as a great player, Ponting has failed in prevailing as a successful captain. In over 120 years of Australian cricket, he is the only captain who has lost three consecutive Ashes series.
Moreover, like always, the player has also been poor at behaving well on the field. In last Test match against England, for breaching the ICC code of conduct and arguing with the umpires, he was fined 40% of the match fee. The player was lucky in the sense
as ICC regarded his act as level two breach of the code, had he qualified for level one charges, he could have been forced to sit out in a number of matches. Realizing the gravity of his mistake, later on, Ponting had sought apology over the incident.
