After being asked about life after cricket, Australia legend, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, said that he will wait till the end of the current domestic season before assessing his next move, which could include a stint in the media box.
Punter retired from international cricket at the conclusion of the previous home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and despite having some domestic assignments up his sleeves, he was inquired about the inevitable – his long term plans.
Having given his all during his playing times, Ponting still seemed more than eager to take the field for an international duty, but felt content with his current situation. Though his contributions with the bat had dwindled considerably during his final days, Ponting was still looked upon as the leading figure in the dressing room, and his knowledge and experience was seen as vital for the younger players.
However, following the emotional farewell at Perth earlier in the month, Ponting and the Aussie crowd seemed in a relaxed mood as the former enjoyed a final sending-off lap at his beloved home ground in Hobart – the venue of the opening Test between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Following the lap, he was quizzed regarding his long-term future, but for Ponting the reality of the situation has not entirely soaked in, keeping in mind that he banked on himself to at least carry on until next year’s Ashes.
"I'll see how I feel about cricket at the end of this season," Ponting told Channel Nine. "It might be a little harder for me I reckon, playing those last few games out, knowing there's not the bigger picture in mind as there's always been for me when I've played state cricket, which is to play for Australia."
Despite a coaching role beckoning, Ponting further revealed his desire to follow other Australian great in take a role in the commentary box.
"I'd like to work in the media at some stage, at some time, in some way, shape or form," Ponting said. "Just being around cricket for as long as I have and being part of successful teams, I think I've got a pretty good knowledge of the game and I'm pretty insightful on the game I think. So we'll wait and see what happens."
