Ricky Ponting wants to emulate Sachin Tendulkar's form
Only days after terming Sachin Tendulkar’s form as not being the best this year, Australia’s cricket captain Ricky Ponting has said that the Indian maestro has inspired him and he hoped that he could emulate
Tendulkar.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Ponting said that while the thought of retirement wasn’t really on his mind, he would like to bat in a manner similar to Tendulkar.

He added, "Even at my age we can find ways to improve and I think Sachin has been a great example of that."

Ponting said that his decision to continue playing will depend a lot on how he performs in the forthcoming Ashes and the World Cup in the Indian sub-continent.

He said, "I think he made nine international hundreds in the last year at 37 years of age, so hopefully I can do something similar in the coming years. If I play well through the Ashes and well through
the World Cup, then I will continue to play."

Earlier, Ponting had commented that despite Tendulkar’s great run of play, he wasn’t playing to the best of his ability. Ponting averages less than 55 with the bat in Test match cricket, a figure that was
inching up to more than 57 at one stage. However, a less than amazing run of batting in the last one year or so has made things difficult for the Australian captain.

Ponting also explained his decision to skip the third and the final ODI between Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 from Wednesday.

He said, "All we are trying to do is give ourselves the best chance of winning the Ashes. If Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and I and the rest of the team decided it was in my best interest not to play the game, then
that is all we can do."

Australia had lost the previous edition of the Ashes and will look to win the series to regain the urn. The Ashes starts from 25 November this year with the first Test match in Brisbane, Australia.
