Ricky Romero and Jose Bautista shine as Toronto Blue Jays beat Minnesota Twins, 2-0 – MLB News
Toronto Blue Jays’ starter, Ricky Romero and right-fielder, Jose Bautista, both had a notable day as Romero pitched 8 2/3 solid innings, while Bautista went 3-for-4 in the Jays’ 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, in Minnesota, on May 13.
Romero went score-less right through the game and allowed just four hits and three walks. He struck out eight batters on his outstanding pitches. Romero expressed his excitement and said, “After having a rough outing, I think it motivates you even more to
come out and have a good outing for the team and rest the bullpen. I felt strong. I felt really, really strong.”
Pitchers were on top from the first to sixth inning, as both teams were unable to post a run. Denard Span wanted to break the silence of his team by driving a shot towards Jays’ in-fielder, John McDonald, but failed to reach at the first base. During the
seventh inning, the score-card moved to 1-0 for Jays, when Juan Rivera drove a run-scoring single and Corey Patterson scored by running-off the second base.
The eighth inning again passed away without any score for both sides. Blue Jays extended their lead to 2-0 in the ninth inning, when Jose Bautista hit a shot for a one-run homer against Twins’ starter, Carl Pavano. It was Bautista’s 12th home
run in the current season. Bautista has had an exemplary season so far, as he has reached on loaded bases 29 times during this season.
Blue Jays’ Manager, John Farrell, was much contended with the way Bautista batted through-out the game. Speaking to reporters, he said, “What can you say about Bautista? A one-run difference is a huge margin. An extra run keeps them away from the bunt and
sacrifice and the small game.”
Pavano also went score-less in his 5 1/2 inning pitches. He permitted seven hits and three walks with just one strike-out. Twins’ Manager, Ron Gardenhire, was disappointed with the team’s performance. He said, “We couldn't shut them down. The one guy keeps
hitting the seats. We couldn't stop that and we had no offense.”
Alex Burnett and Joe Nathan both scored two runs on three hits, in a combined 1 2/3 inning pitches.
