Ricky Romero elevates Toronto Blue Jays with 2-0 win against Minnesota Twins – MLB Update
Ricky Romero stunned the Minnesota Twins’ line-up with his incredible unplayable pitches as the Toronto Blue Jays took a 2-0 victory at Target Field, Minneapolis on Friday, May 13.
Friday’s game was marked by an awe-inspiring performance by Romero who pitched over eight innings, allowing virtually no hit to corner the Twins’ offence. However, it is important to mention the fact that Romero had previously struggled to match his rival’s
excellence in pitching. Not long ago Romero had allowed four hits against Justin Verlander who, compared to Romero, pitched a no-hit game.
However, Romero inspired admiration from the seemingly hostile rivals. Among others who came forward to admit Romero’s brilliance was Twins’ manager. "We couldn't shut them down. The one guy keeps hitting the seats. We couldn't stop that and we had no offense,"
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
“After having a rough outing, I think it motivates you even more to come out and have a good outing for the team and rest the bullpen," Romero said. "I felt strong. I felt really, really strong. I think those thoughts start creeping in if you take it to
the seventh, eighth or ninth inning. Other than that I felt like I was just making my pitches and getting outs.”
Friday’s game began with Carl Pavano pitching for Minnesota against Yunel Escobar of Toronto. Pavano hardly allowed the Twins’ hitters to open their account in the first inning following which Romero unleashed his effectual weapon from his arsenal. He kept
pitching effective innings while Minnesota’s hitters were having difficulty playing him confidently.
The Blue Jays’ offence, in the meanwhile, got the first run in the seventh inning when Alex Burnett came out to pitch for Toronto in the seventh inning. Juan Rivera was the first to do it, as he singled to left to put an end to the drought of runs and gave
a 1-0 lead to the Twins. The first run did also bring displeasure for the Twins’ line-up.
When Romero threw pitches in the eighth inning, the Blue Jays had a 1-0 edge. They doubled the lead in the ninth inning with Jose Bautista’s single. The 2-0 lead was then successfully defended by Romero who gave up only one hit in the last inning, keeping
the lead intact. His amazing performance finally sealed the 2-0 victory for the Blue Jays against a struggling Twins side.
