Ricky Romero outclasses Baltimore Orioles’ offence in Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 win – MLB Update
Ricky Romero unleashed his unhittable fastballs on Wednesday, June 15 to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 at Rogers Centre, Toronto.
Bringing cheer in the entire camp, Romero’s eight innings’ feat did not go unacknowledged. “He had all three (pitches) working for him tonight," Orioles' manager Buck Showalter said. "That's why he's thought of so well. He was dominating.”
What brought a tinge of disappointment, despite the excessive joy of being wonderfully triumphant to the star pitcher was the ninth inning unexpected change when Frank Francisco came to close it out.
"A bit of excitement, adrenaline and I wasn't able to slow myself down anymore," said Romero. "I kind of got out of my game a little bit. It's frustrating not getting it done but I'm glad Frankie came and did his job."
Romero was a perfectionist since the beginning on Wednesday when the ball started rolling in the first inning. He pitched a shut-out inning to pronounce his intention. Once the Jays’ Jake Arrieta came, it was a different scenario altogether.
Arrieta gave up no less than three hits in the inning that followed with Yunel Escobar’s homer, earning the Blue Jays a one-run lead in the very first inning. Baltimore’s offence then had to confront the seemingly invincible Romero who pitched another scoreless
inning.
Ricky remained strong throughout the coming inning and gave up one of his three hits in the fourth inning. The second came in the sixth inning out of Andino’s bat, but it posed no big challenge to the team as a whole.
Arrieta was finding it increasingly difficult to contain the now charged up Blue Jays’ offence. Juan Rivera had the second run for the Blue Jays in the sixth which saw Arrieta give up three hits, effectively establishing the dominance of the Blue Jays in
the game.
Adam Lind, who had struck the eleventh inning hit last night, homered to right in the seventh inning to charge up the lead to 4-0, adding to the hopelessness of Baltimore.
Kevin Gregg relieved Berken in the eighth, but the Blue Jays stuck with Romero. In the ninth inning, when Toronto was in charge of the game, Francisco relieved Romero.
Francisco gave up a hit and a run in the inning earned by Matt Wieters, but sent Derek Lee home without give up more hits or allowing runs to seal the 4-1 victory for the Blue Jays and take the second in the three-game series.
