Ricky Romero praises Casey Janssen after Toronto Blue Jays beat Los Angeles Angels 3-2
Casey Janssen had just one inning of pitching as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 at Rogers Centre in Toronto on Monday, September 19.
The relief pitcher cropped up a special win as he ended his inning with a strike-out and allowed a hit. Ricky Romero had a lot to say about the star.
"Casey has been tremendous all year," said Romero. "He's been one of our biggest weapons down there in the bullpen. He's been awesome, and any time he grabs the ball I have all the confidence in him, no matter if I'm pitching or whoever else is pitching
and he comes in after. He's been unbelievable."
Janssen is currently 6-0 and his form has been praise worthy, as of late. His earned runs average is 1.90 and that figure comes from fifty games of pitching. He has saved the Blue Jays on four occasions and his record displays an opposition hitting average
of just .221. The star player is looking good and 2011 happens to be his best year, in terms of his earned runs average.
The last time Janssen played as well as he is doing so now, was in 2007. The hurler managed a 2.35 earned runs average from 70 games. Back then, he was 2-3.
The star’s recent form is catching a lot of attention. He picked up his second consecutive victory on Monday after going two innings against the New York Yankees, conceding nothing. The player will be hoping to hit 50 strike-outs this season as he is currently
two short of the target.
Janssen and the rest of the Blue Jays are giving manager John Farrell a good sign. With players hitting consistency and form, one cannot write off 2012 in favour of the typical top teams in the American League East.
"It's a total team effort here," said Romero. "We've been playing well and these guys don't let down. We're doing everything possible to win."
If that mentality keeps up, the Blue Jays may be looking at the playoffs next year.
