Ricky Romero shines as Baltimore Orioles lose to Toronto Blue Jays 6-8 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles were crushed by Toronto Blue Jays 6-8 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, May 29 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For the second straight time in this series, Baltimore scored first but the Blue Jays fought back immediately to dent their rivals’ confidence levels. Adam Jones looked in stunning form as he homered to right in the first inning to put the Orioles 1-0 ahead.
Rajai Davis scored the first run for the Blue Jays as he reached on bunt single to pitcher in the third inning to level score at 1-1.
Yunel Escobar and Brett Lawrie took complete advantage of Orioles’ unforced errors. Lawrie had an RBI double to right centre in the fourth inning to give a handsome 4-1 lead to Toronto.
Davis, Lawrie and David Cooper continued to make some wonderful plays in the fourth and the fifth as the Blue Jays raced to an impassable 8-1 lead. Mark Reynolds kept Orioles’ hopes alive as he grounded out to third to make the score 2-8.
Chris Davis added a two run drive in the sixth and Jones homered in the eighth but the effort did not prove to be enough for Buck Showalter’s side.
"I don't care what I've heard about his last start or his previous 40 starts," Jones said of Romero. "The guy is nasty every time he takes the mound."
"I had a pretty rough grip on the ball and made a bad throw," Arrieta said. "That right there put me in a tough spot early in the game. I can only blame myself for that."
"He gave me plenty of rope and that's something that's clear, you can't argue balls and strikes," Matt Wieters said. "It was something where I knew I might be going there but I still had to say my peace."
Toronto’s starting pitcher Ricky Romero pitched with great control and accuracy to win for the seventh time in nine starts.
Orioles have now dropped four straight and seven out of last nine. They have very little time to regroup themselves if they want to chase down league leaders; Texas Rangers.
