Toronto Blue Jays flatten Texas Rangers 11-5 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays continued their excellent run as they flattened the American League leading Texas Rangers 11-5 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, May 2 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Rangers, once again, had the first laugh as Blake Snyder homered to give them 1-0 lead but Ron Washington’s team was unable to convert some easy scoring chances afterwards and the Blue Jays raced to an impassable 8-1 lead.
For Toronto, the entire batting unit made the most of available opportunities to put up a decent score on the board. Kelly Johnson homered in the third to level the score at 1-1. J.P. Arencibia, Yunel Escobar and Jose Bautista also made valuable contributions.
"Edwin is just continuing to carry us," Johnson said. "We needed to answer back and he answered back big right there."
Edwin Encarnacion hit a towering home run in the sixth to seal a thrilling win for his team. Starting pitcher Ricky Romero showed great accuracy and control as he pitched eight solid innings.
"They flat out beat us today," Rangers catcher Mike Napoli said. "We'll just move on to the next. We'll forget about it. Our team is good at that."
"The first two innings, I thought Harry was throwing the ball well," Washington said. "He just lost the feel for his secondary stuff and couldn't spot his fastball. His sinker is key, he gets a lot of ground balls. Today they got a lot of balls up in the
air."
John Farrell and company have shown some great fighting skills, determination and mental toughness in the last two games of their series against the Rangers. After losing the opening game 1-4, the Blue Jays have definitely raised the level of their game
and they outclassed their opponents in almost all aspects of the game on Wednesday evening.
With their win against Texas, Toronto also improved their record to 14-11 and they will be looking to put up similar numbers throughout the season to give themselves a chance to win the World Series title for the first time since 1984.
