Ricky Rubio recovering well, due back some time in December or January – NBA News
Last season witnessed not just one, but two special point guards suffer season ending knee injury. And while both cannot be compared in terms of their current status in the league, they were both critical to their team’s achieving
their respective objectives for the season.
Ricky Rubio, not in the same superstar franchise leading MVP league as Derrick Rose, was very important for the Minnesota Timberwolves and their attempts of reaching the playoffs. While he was with the team, him and Kevin Love
seemed to form a good combination, leading the team towards a playoff berth. Once he went down with injury, the Wolves missed the playoffs.
Rubio underwent surgery and is expected to be back some time in December or January. He is currently rehabbing from injury and working out to strengthen his muscles, and is expected to start running in a few weeks.
Wolves’ owner Glen Taylor talked to the Pioneer Press prior to departing for China on a charity mission and said:
“The doctors said he was progressing faster than normal and normal was supposed to be in January. Faster than normal would be December. He’s going to start running and stuff in a few weeks.”
With Rubio out for the start of next season, Wolves Head Coach Rick Adelman will work out a rotation with Alexey Shved, J.J. Barea, Luke Ridnour and returning Brandon Roy. Roy will be returning from knee injuries that kept him
out of action for the whole of last season. Shved is a key player in the Russian national team who played well in the recently concluded Olympics, but this will be his first season in the NBA and will have a lot of learning to do.
Adelman will have the opportunity to try out different rotations in the preseason games to get a starting five ready by the team the season opens on October 30th.
Minnesota are looking forward to the next season after a successful summer in which they were able to add Andrei Kirilenko, Alexey Shved and Brandon Roy to the roster. Though all are risks, if the selection works in favour of the
Wolves and they players live up to their potential, the Wolves could very well be making an appearance in the playoffs come May next year.
