Ricky Rubio sat out the latter part of last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, possibly harming their chances of reaching the playoffs. He is spending his summer recovering from an ACL as well as LCL injury.

The injury not only forced him to miss out much of a breakthrough season for the Wolves, but he also failed to be healthy in time for the 2012 Olympics. Rubio would have loved to play for his home country of Spain, and the Spanish
side could have used his ball handling and passing skills.

However, Rubio is optimistic about his future and seems to be ahead of schedule in his recovery plan. He tweeted this recently

“Check out w the doctor went great! My knee its good even better than he expected! ‪#hard work.”

Wolves General Manager David Kahn talked to Jerry Zgoda of the Star-Tribune recently and said:

“He will be with us in training camp, at practice, he’ll hopefully be able to do some non-contact things that month (October), but I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. It’s very important for him and for our team that he starts
the season travelling, practicing, that he’s here. He won’t be that far away, although we’re not going to put any dates certain on anything. He’ll be everywhere we are.”

The GM is optimistic that Rubio will be back with the team by the team next season commences, and his return will give a big boost to the Wolves chances of making it to the playoffs in the upcoming season.

Rubio forms the core of the team along with All Star power forward Kevin Love. With the addition of Andrei Kirilenko and a returning Brandon Roy, the Wolves are looking like a good group for next season and now have the capabilities
to threaten the Western Conference giants.

A playoff appearance is a real possibility for this young group of individuals hungry for success. It all depends on how Kirilenko plays as he makes his return to the NBA, how Roy holds up after facing knee issues over the past
two years, and how Rubio recovers from his injury. And off course, ultimately it’s all about how Love plays.

It is a lot of ifs and thens, but the Wolves are finally looking like a team that can qualify to the playoffs.
