Ricky Walden aims to reclaim a Top 16 spot during main tour: 2011-12 Snooker Season
Chester-born, Ricky Walden has tumbled down to world number 20 after his performance in the World Snooker Championship 2011 and now aims to get back into World’s Top 16 players in 2011-12 Snooker
Season.
The Englishman will begin his new season’s campaign within a week, participating in the first event of Players Tour Championship (PTC). The event will commence from Saturday, June 18 to 22 at the
World Snooker Academy in Sheffield and Walden will play his first match on Monday, June 20.
The 28-year-old Walden crashed out of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 at the hands of compatriot Rory McLeod by 6-10 in Round 1. This defeat in the mega event threw him out of Top
16 of the world.
The last Snooker Season was a bit of a disaster for the former Shanghai Masters champion, as he could not reach to the final stage of any tournament he played. However, his performance in the PTCs
had been convincing with a couple of quarter-finals and a semi-final spots.
While talking to the reporters, Walden said, “The past season has been a bit of a disaster for me and I think that I just tried to do too much and ended up paying for it. It was a long, hard season
and I think my dip in form and dropping out of the top 16 was down to me playing too many tournaments and not really giving myself a break.”
On the other hand, Walden still believes that he can do better in the new snooker season as he has pulled up his socks to compete in major events.
He told the local media about his determination, “This coming season there’s all to play for. I’m back on the table now and I’m trying to get all the preparation in that I need so that I’m ready to
challenge again. I’m confident in my own ability and I definitely think that this season will be a good one for me.”
Walden will have to play the qualifying rounds since he has dropped down at world number 20. To be in Top 16, Walden has to perform brilliantly in major ranking events of the 2011-12 Snooker Season.
