Ricky Walden claims 2012 Wuxi Classic title beating Stuart Bingham in final – Snooker Update
Winner of the 2008 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament, England’s Ricky Walden played with his never-back-down spirit against the winner of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event, fellow countryman Stuart Bingham in the all-England final encounter
of the 2012 Wuxi Classic and defeated him by the score line of 10-4 to claim the tournament title.
A superb display of scintillating snooker skills brought a proud end to Walden’s run of the event where he stood triumphant at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. Along with that, this victory over a player like Bingham has also given a fresh start
to Walden’s new snooker season campaign. Now he will continue his season journey with more confidence and belief in his abilities so that he can make an appearance in the upcoming snooker tournaments too.
The next stop for Walden will be the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria where he will be taking part in the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament. Bingham, who tumbled down against Walden in the 2012 Wuxi Classic final, will be defending the
Aussie title.
The first session of the final match between Walden and Bingham was a topsy-turvy affair as both potters were in a rush to grab the lead to put some pressure on each other. However, with hard tries, Walden was able to grab the lead by the score line of 4-0
with tremendous play in the session. He faced some resistance in the first couple of frames but managed to maintain his run.
The second session started with Walden’s frame win by 54-24 which pushed Bingham five frames down. However, the snooker fans of China witnessed a superb uplift from Bingham in the very next frame when he fired the maximum 147 to win the frame and move one
frame up at 5-1.
However, that was not enough from him because Walden claimed the next two frames to keep his lead at 7-1 with the highest break of 56 in the seventh frame. The first two frames of the third session finished in Walden’s favour but Bingham came from behind
with two classy breaks of 103 and 100 to hit three sets by 0-103 and 0-100 and 20-92 to move within three frames up at 9-4.
Bingham’s strike back did not do him any good because his opponent took the next frame firing a cracking clearance of 74 points to claim the title by 10-4.
