Ricky Walden triumphs over Robert Milkins in quarters of 2012 Wuxi Classic – Snooker Update
After displaying an excellent snooker show in the quarter-final encounter, England’s Ricky Walden was able to defeat his opponent, compatriot Robert Milkins by the score line of 5-3. The Englishman was outstanding at the baize during his run in the match
and totally unsettled his opponent. Walden has now surged into the semi-final encounter of the 2012 Wuxi Classic where he will meet the Scotsman Marcus Campbell.
The Englishman has put up an outstanding performance in the 2012 Wuxi Classic from the beginning to make it this far in the event. The match up started as expected with noticeable form from both cuemen but Walden tumbled down in the first session of the
match at the hand of Milkins. He performed brilliantly against the 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump in second round to book his quarter-final spot.
The first session ended in Milkins’ favour as he breezed to a 1-3 lead. However, Walden had to pull up his socks in the second session and get back into the game with superb snooker breaks. The Englishman stunned his fellow countryman and claimed four consecutive
frame victories to hit the match victory by the score line of 5-3.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Walden said, “Last night's match was a lucky escape in the end. I felt lucky to be out there today and I'm glad I played well in the second half of the game and I'm delighted to still be in the tournament.
I started off poorly, I was all at sea with my safety shots and Rob had the pace of the table early on and played much better than me in the first four frames.”
He added, “After the interval I settled down a bit, Rob missed a few and there was a topsy-turvy frame to go 3-3, it could have easily gone 4-2.”
Walden has set up Marcus Campbell semi-final clash which will definitely be one of the toughest encounters of the tournament. Walden is all set to face his friend and believes he can trouble him during the semi-final proceedings.
