Rico Ramos preparing to go all out against Akifumi Shimoda – Boxing news
The Puerto Rican-American, Rico Ramos is currently preparing himself for his upcoming fight against the 26-year-old southpaw stance Super Bantamweight contender, Akifumi Shimoda in Las Vegas.
Ramos, nicknamed Sauvecito, will be fighting Shimoda in their 12-round bout on July 9, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City in New Jersey, United States.
Both the fighters have confirmed their presence for the bout. Shimoda will be defending his WBA World Super Bantamweight title against Ramos.
The showdown is going to be televised by HBO. Ramos fans are very excited to see that their boxer is going for the biggest fight of his career and that he is making progress.
Ramos took the initiative at the age of eight when he entered the Broadway Boxing Gym to learn boxing. Shimoda learnt a lot under the guidelines of his instructor, Yuichi Kasai at the Teiken Boxing Gym in Tokyo. He won the Golden Gloves, Silver Gloves and
a National PAL Title in his amateur boxing career.
The current WBO NABO Youth Super Bantamweight Champion, Ramos said, “You are sitting in the house, you see other people outside doing nothing with their life and it made me want to get back in the gym and constantly keep pushing myself, I just stayed in
the gym, got some fights, and I like fighting, so I stayed in there and right now most, most people my age are out there partying and doing other things, but this is my career, so I do what I have to do.”
Ramos has now moved to Las Vegas from Los Angeles to prepare for the biggest fight of his career.
Talking about his next opposition the 23-year-old, Ramos admitted that Shimoda is the best southpaw and the best guy to fight with at this stage.
The Super Bantamweight boxer of Japan, Shimoda on the other hand says he does not know much about his rival but his left hand works very well for him. He said he tries to dominate the fight from the very beginning. However, he said when comes for the 12-round
matchup, he will be ready for him.
Hopefully, the fight between the two will be interesting and entertaining one for the boxing fans around the world as both the fighters are very determined to claim that bout.
