Riddle!? can someone help?

Question

A man spent (in this order) a third of his life to date in Florida, a sixth of it in California, 12 years in New Jersey, half the remainder of his time in Texas, and as long in New York as he spent in California. Where did he spend his fortieth birthday? riddle

Alright.

He died at the age of 72. He turned 40 while he lived in New Jersey.

If you don't believe me...

24=amount of time in Florida

+12 (amount of time in CA, one-sixth of his life)

+12 (amount of time in NJ, where he lived between the age of 36 and 48)

+12 (twenty-four years is the remaining time of his life, divide by two)

+12 (amount of time in CA, which is equal to time in NY).

In the grave.  37.3 is the years he lived in Florida, California, and New Jersey.  The remainder is 2.7 and half of that is what he spent in Texas, the rest he wasn't alive.

New Jersey. He spent 24 years in Florida, then 12 in California, then 12 in New Jersey, then 12 in Texas and then 12 in California.  

If he spent as long in New York as he spent in California, then he spent a sixth of his life there. And if he spent half of the remainder of his time in Texas, then he also spent one sixth of his life there. One third (Florida)+one sixth (CA)+one sixth (TX)+one sixth(NY)= 5/6.  That means that 12 years (in New Jersey) is one sixth of his life.
