Question:

Riddling red wines??

I've been looking for a cool wine rack and came across something called a "riddling wine rack." Having never heard of the term "riddling" before I assumed it was either a brand name or style of wood used. After researching I discovered that riddling actually has to do with a European sparkling wine making process. So my question (finally) is: I really only drink red wines and not sparkling ones--will it make a difference if I store red wines in a riddling wine rack??

  1. I can't be sure because I've never heard of a wine rack tailored for a specific type of wine but as long is it stores your wines on their side, it shouldn't make any difference.

  2. Riddling wine racks are quite unique.  It's like a panel of wood with holes large enough to set a bottle of wine in almost up side down.  This is actually good for any wine. Will definitely keep the cork wet and the wine will age nicely.

The only setback I see, and it's not that important is that if you are aging wine in a riddling rack you will get a bit more sediment on the cork when opening.

  3. Absolutely not.
