so, what do you working/riding equestrians do?

barn chores then ride?

or ride then work?

or half and half.. like feed/turnout/half stalls and then ride, and then finish working?

i'm trying to decide what to do tomorow, the heat is serious motivation to ride early, but i don't wanna be mucking out stalls in the heat either! hahaha

just being nosey and curious [=

  1. i always ride then work because if you are working first you dont do as well and you rush because you are trying to finish so you can ride. also i like to know that i can slow down and have fun with chores because i already rode and i can take my time .

  2. I agree with KC. usually I like to work first, to get it over with, then ride... but in this heat i try to ride as early as possible so it's not too hot out.

  3. i usually do stalls then ride then other chorses lik feeding and sweeping and stuff. but sometimes i dont have a choice since i take lessons but if im just practice riding, thats how i do it. but sometimes theres other stuff you have to do in the morning before you ride like giving the horses water or cleaning tack etc.

  4. My horse lives in a pasture and is feed by the lady who owns the place but whenever I travel with him I do chores first and then ride. I would ride while it is cooler for your horses sake and your own.

  5. Thats a toss up.  Normally I ride and then work, because I cant just say, oh I will do the job tomorrow, like I could push off riding til the next day if I was too tired. But sometimes you just want to get the work out of the way!

  6. We feed, then have people ride and then clean out stalls/turnout We get up at 4am and feed, then have some people clean stalls, ride, and turnout. Hope this helps!

  7. Work first, then play. and to all of the other riders, do you not have light on you ring, or go for night rides. you are missing out on going for carry out food, eating under the moon with the sound of you hoses eating the grass, and trying to get in you pizza, or rice, or egg roll..A rider from Miami.

  8. i reckon you should work then ride so your kind of rewarding yourself for working hard.

heat? what is that to stop riding and if you get a bit hot, thats what showers are for lol!! hope it help oo

  9. i usually do my chores then ride, but on hot days, i ride in the morning early, and try to have my chores done before 12 so i am not out in the heat of the day.

  10. Chores then ride/work.

Working on the ranch requires my horse but its hard to consider it work when you love it this much.

  11. work the ride, you may have to cut your ride short b/c of the heat...but I'm always tired after I ride, and I would then take my time w/ the chores, so in you have to finish work first, you will do it faster so you can ride!

  12. Work and then ride?

  13. i think that you should ride then work because if the horse Hasn't bin worked then that's a good idea.

then do the work after for example,

1.after riding turn the horse out then muck the stalls

    2. get his food ready

    3. get him/her and then feed him.

  14. My AM Barn Chores

    Boarders Chores

    Boarders Horses

    My Animals other than horses

    Farm Chores

    My Horses

    Evening Chores

that's the condensed version of my day....

Hence my previous question about staying motivated when struggling with the mundane....

  15. Depends on the weather.  My Highland doesn't do hot weather, so if it's hot he gets ridden either extremely early in the morning (before the kids get up - ie 6am) or once the kids are in bed (after 8pm).  I'm in Ireland so it's not mega hot, but 22c is quite hot for a Highland!  (And me - I'm not good in heat either.)

I'm very lucky in that I work freelance from home, so I can choose when I feel like working, and have no boss bearing down on me insisting I spend my summer in an office - however, I do then have to find some motivation myself!  I tend to say hello to the ponies in the morning, then work from about 9-1, and spend the afternoon with the kids and/or ponies.  If it's not raining in the evening I'll usually ride then too.

I have a fabulous groom who takes care of all the boring stuff, like mucking out the paddocks :)

  16. I would work then ride, you would enjoy it more to know that you didn't have to work afterwards. But if it is going to be really hot, that might not be the best idea for your horse. I would say it all depends on the weather.
