Rider Jamie Spencer set to compete at York despite his fall in the TurfTV Betting Shop Service Maiden Stakes
Jamie Spencer had a tough day on 15th February, 2012, as he was unseated from his mount, Panama Cat, in the TurfTV Betting Shop Service Maiden Stakes at Beverley.
The daughter of Tale Of The Cat, out of mare Oceans Apart, was competing in her maiden - which she could not complete.
It seemed that luck was on Spencer’s side, as he was not injured and continued to race for the rest of the evening on his remaining rides.
Success was not far for the 2005 champion jockey as he led the race favourite, Bridgehampton, to victory in the Beverley Middle Distance Series Handicap.
The bay gelding, who is under the training of Michael Bell brought speed, skill to defeat the William Jarvis trained Cheviot Quest.
After the fall, the jockey assured the press that he is in good shape and will continue to race in the York meeting. He further stated that he was sore and that it was a bad race.
The track at Beverley was lucky for trainer, Ian McInnes, as his runner, Top Notch Tonto succeeded in the TurfTV Betting Shop Service Maiden Stakes despite his slim chance of 17-2.
With jockey, Patrick Mathers, as his mount, he secured the victory 1 ½ lengths before, Pearl Noir.
The winning trainer stated that:
"My worry was I'd rushed him after last week, but I knew he'd appreciate the ground. I think he'll get further than five furlongs, but I don't know what we'll do with him now."
Hoof It, son of Monsieur Bond, out of mare Forever Bond, is scheduled to compete in the Group 2 Duke of York Totepool Stakes at York on 16th May, 2012, and things seem to be working in his favour.
Owned by A. Chandler and L. Westwood, the five-year-old gelding has bagged a victory at York before, which increases his chances of winning.
The bay gelding scored in the Sky Bet Dash (Handicap) where he raced as a favourite with a chance of 3-1 and defeated, Tajneed, by ¾ of a length in July, 2011.
