Question:

Rides along the road on the way to Las Vegas?

A little while ago, I went on a roadtrip to Las Vegas from California. We stopped during night for some food, and across the street there were a couple of roller coasters. These rides weren't in Las Vegas, but they were on the way. I'm thinking of taking another trip to Las Vegas again, but this time I would like to try the rides.

Any idea what they're called??

  1. Primm is on the stateline between California and Nevada (Nevada side) of course. The roller coaster is called Desperado. It is the same developer who built the New York, New York casino on the strip with it's roller coaster.

Desperado is 1.11 miles long, takes 163 seconds and hits speeds of 80 mph. Drop is from over 200' with angles up to 60 degrees. You are NOT INVERTED as they wanted this ride to be comfortable for children. It is $8 per ride or $30 for the day. It was supposed to be a babysitter for kids while their parents gamble.

Terrible Herbst (the guys that own the gas stations in Vegas) bought this resort for $400 million last year from MGM Mirage. It turned out to be a terrible decision. High gas prices effect this resort much more than places in Vegas since all visitors arrive by car. They are in bankruptcy protection right now, but they are unlikely to close the resort. Rooms go for as little as $23 per night midweek.

  2. You are thinking of Buffalo Bill's in Primm NV!

    Have fun!

  3. The rollercoaster you are talking about is on the NV CA border in Primm.  The name of the casino may have changed Buffalo Bill's since it sold, but it is still there.
