Ridgefield boys volleyball team defeats Staples by 3-2
Volleyball is being played increasingly at the high school level. The game has not restricted itself just to boys but girls also take part in it vigorously.
The enthusiasm shown by these young athletes has stimulated many schools to take up training programs that aim the harness and hone the skills and potential of these young athletes. Not only are these athletes developed in practice sessions, they are also
given a chance to challenge and better themselves in tournaments that are played both at the local as well as the national level.
A team that plays volleyball passionately is the Ridgefield boys volleyball team. Ridgefield had a match against the Staples on Wednesday that went on to five long and thrilling sets. By the time that the night was out, Ridgefield had secured a well-deserved
win over Staples by 3-2.
As the winning team started celebrating their win and the Staples were heading out of the court with heads hung low, the scoreboard displayed read: 22-25; 25-22; 25-23; 20-25 and 15-8.
With their recent win, Ridgefield has managed to improve their overall season number of wins to 15. In addition, they have also suffered three losses. Interestingly, the performance statistics of the Staples have now become equal to that of Ridgefield by
experiencing a defeat at their hands recently. The Staples hold a 15-3 overall season record.
The start of the first set of the match saw both the Staples and Ridgefield come out strong. Neither team was letting the other take the lead for a long period of time. The Staples and Ridgefield stayed almost neck-to-neck with each other for most part of
the game. However, as the set reached its final stages, Staples was seen to push past ahead and take the first set of the match at 25-22.
The loss of the first set motivated Ridgefield to step up their game. Ridgefield responded positively by putting up a challenge for the Staples. Consequently, it was not hard for Ridgefield to secure the second set of the game at 25-22.
The third set also went the way of Ridgefield but the Staples managed to take the fourth set at 25-20. However, the final set of the game was bagged by Ridgefield at 15-8.
The Ridgefield player, Mike Peckham said, “This was absolutely huge. I feel like we didn't show up for half the game (last time). I knew if we played a full game we could bet them. Last time we lost (25-13, 25-17) -- there was no intensity. Tonight we played
from point one to 25. We laid it all out there.”
