Question:

Riding Level?

I'm kinda bored right now, and the horse section always seems to be going really slowly. Anyways, I was just curious as to what level of riding you think I am? I can walk, trot (sitting and posting), canter, and i've just started to jump. I'm not sure how high it is, but I'm guessing it's around a foot high (like I said, I just started).

So if anyone has any idea of what riding level I am, please answer, thanx a bunch.

  1. There are no standard riding levels.  At my son's camp, you'd be an expert.  My son is 7 and can walk/trot independently and is considered intermediate.

If I had to rate you, I'd guess advanced beginner, since you don't have the hang of jumping yet.  If you were in Pony Club, you'd be in between the lowest two ratings: D1 and D2, until your jumping improved and got to 18 or 24 inches (read the rating criteria at www.ponyclub.org and look for a link to Standards of Proficiency)

  2. An advanced beginner.  Once you have more experience jumping I would call you an intermediate rider.

I'd consider you an intermediate beginner. You still haven't learned all you could on the flat and you are beginng to jump. Maybe even beginner beginner. Until you jump 2'3", then I'd consider you an advanced beginner, then when you hit 2'9" beginner intermeadiate. Intermeadiate riders know collection and oxers and jump around 3ft. Advanced is jumping around 4ft and handling almost any horse.

  4. Hmm probably an advanced beginner. you seem to be moving along pretty quickly. I know some people who just started riding who are learning to jump and are beginners. Good luck and keep on riding, you seem that you can do a lot already in a few years!

  5. Probably a beginner intermediate, not an intermediate beginner. But it also depends the difficulty level of the horse you're riding, if you were riding a green Thoroughbred it would be higher than if you were riding a trained schoolhorse.

  6. When someone says riding level it's not like there are numbers. You could assing yourself a number if you felt like it. I could say that I thought I was a six or seven out of ten. Or I could say I'm advanced, but not an expert. Either one of these may be true, but they are very general. I may be advance, but there are many people better at ridding than me. There are also areas that people don't care about. I don't care anything about jumping or dressage or racing. I just like to trail ride and maybe do some rodeo stuff. You could probably figure out your level better than anyone. It's just when you take your accumulated horse experience and find where you think you belong between someone who has just met a horse and someone who trains horses for a living and deals with hundreds of horses a day and knows most of what there is to know. I say that I'm a 6 or 7 because I've been riding in one fashion or another for 21 years and am now getting into training. I'm above intermediate, but below good trainers. I'm probably closer to a 6.8 thought I'd still put myself in the advanced category. I'm not sure I'd ever put myself in the expert category. It's kind of pretensious. If I had to answer your question without knowing anything else about you I would put you in Intermediate between a 4 and a 5.

  7. I would say Advanced beginner. I agree with Girl in the JeanSkirt. It totally depends on the kind of horse you ride!

I just want to add that: (about the type of horse) I ride a 4 year old mare and we are just getting her into jumping so i was trotting little cross poles for a while and everyone was talking to me like i had only been riding for less than a year when really i can jump 2'9! and have been riding for7 years! lol i just wanted to add that. The type of horse really does make a difference!

  8. i think you know what kind of rider you are if you are bored go just a little faster and jump a Little higher you should have fun now

  9. Begener i think kinda like me. But i cant jump yet in still working on my canter. But i think that soon ill be jumping. And i have had like 13 lessons and it has been really fun!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Advanced Beginner.  You're mastering the basics, which is super important if you want to go on and show and generally improve your skill as a rider.
