Riding Mower suddenly DEAD?

I have a Craftsman YS4500 Briggs 21 H.P. thats 1 year old. Today I started it and moved it so I could take off the blades and sharpen them.

Tonight I got back on it to do some mowing and when I turned the key it made a noise like it wanted to start but didnt.

Now it wont do anything, no click, nothing.

I also now have no lights.

I tried to jump the solenoid and it doesnt make a sound.

I checked the fuse with an ohm meter and its fine.

I unplugged the cable going to the seat safety switch and still nothing.

I rocked it a few times in gear and that didnt release anything.

I checked the Positive cable all the way to the starter for continuity and its fine.

If my ignition switch is bad wouldnt it still jump off the solenoid?

My ignition switch is wired to my lights also.

Battery connections are clean and the battery is charged.

Need some ideas, Thx.

  1. It sounds like one of the safety switches are tripped. Check all pre-starting checks such as blade disengaged, trans in neutral, clutch depressed, and last but not least make sure your sitting on the seat there's usually one under there too. If your battery is good and all the terminals are clean check the inline fuse.

  2. Sounds like the battery is dead.   Maybe something like the ignition was left on. Check the battery charge again.

  3. Have you checked the spark plug(s)?

  4. Took off blades to sharpen- that is the first area to look- a blade engagement/neutral safety switch in mower deck/drive area that was disconnected when you removed blades or a wire pulled in same area. Check where you worked/ cross check wiring diagram
