Okay, I'm 13 years old, and I have been riding for 6 years. I might be getting my first horse soon. I ride English, and have taken some Western lessons as well. I love jumping and English riding in lessons, but for my horse I want to have fun and do fun stuff with it and not have to worry about training and posture and stuff like that as much. I am completely open to Western riding and horses. What style do you think I should look for when buying my horse?

  1. I would suggest you get a Quarter Horse or a Paint horse. They are both suited for Western or English riding. Both the AQHA and the APHA have classes in both styles. You could also trail ride, pole bend, team pen and a whole number of things with these versatile horse breeds. Your options will be open for any type of riding.

  2. I agree with horsybill

also even if the horse has not been ridenn english or has not been riden western you can also train them to ride both

  3. Try looking for one that will do more than one discipline.  Many horses are suited for both English OR Western, if you have nor preference that is ok.  Once you get the horse you'll figure out which it likes better.

  4. If you want to have lots of fun and different experiences with your new horse, make sure that it has more than one discipline. You could have a combination like this one...

    Hunter   Jumper   Dressage  etc.

You could also get one with just pleasure riding discipline. This way, as you said before, you won't have to worry about posture and all that stuff.

Good luck to you and your lucky baby! :)

  5. I do english too and i love if i was you i would get an english horse , but if you want to do both why don't you try to get one that can do both

  6. either way. here are the upsides to each style that the horse has riden before.

Western: probably not as spooky, (but no garuntees) a good project, can be taught english.

English: easier taught western than vise versa. and with english, you won't have to go back to jumping xpoles with a horse your training.

  7. well, since you can do both, i think that you should search for horses in both disciplines. this way it gives you a much more open spectrum. if you don't want to worry about posture but still want to do shows, then you should do speed events (western gaming). you're safe/ clean if you did the pattern correctly, stayed in your lane, and kept forward momentum. and it's VERY fun!!!

  8. Family and cob horses.
