  1. You will lose weight, although I highly recommend you cross train and involve some weight training.  The body is incredibly adaptive and will condition itself for your muscles to be able to perform your cycling activities but not much else.  This is often why you can see people who run 5 miles a day but aesthetically they don't look like they are in much better shape than the average person.  To really see the results you need to incorporate various exercises and not just cycling.  I recommend weight training and also if you are going to cycle, I would recommend incorporating some sprinting while cycling instead of just going a fairly constant speed.

I can't speak for when you will see results, because there are way too many variables, but most people see good results out of diet and exercise in 4 to 6 weeks.

  2. This site offers a free E-book on how to lose weight. It's been a great help for me, maybe it can help you as well?

  3. My muscles tone pretty fast so I think you will notice some muscularity very soon.  On the other hand, at first fluids move into the muscles as they inflame and repair.  So the added water offsets your weight loss.  You might actually see an increase on the scale.

Later on as you develop more muscle mass the gain will offset fat loss.  So again you MAY see minimal results on the scale.

Having said all of that find a calorie counter site on the web.  Use it to determine your daily required  calorie intake.  The same site might suggest how many calories you burn riding your bike.  Add up all of your daily calories that you take in.  Then subtract what you burn on your bike.

Every time you get 3500 calories below what is needed you will lose ONE pound.   So one pound of fat equals 3500 calories.

So if your daily net calories are 500 below what is needed you will see a weight loss of 1 pound every 7 days.
