  1. You can try a child seat that attaches to the back of your bicycle, like this one:  http://www.performancebike.com/shop/prof...

Or if money is no object, you can buy a towable stroller, like this one:  http://www.performancebike.com/shop/prof...

Of course you need to exercise a lot more caution when using either of those to ensure your little one's safety.

    Hope this helps.

  2. The fontanels on a babies skull are still soft until the age of about two. The child's brain needs some sort of protection until at least then.

You really should wait until the child can support its own head weight plus that of a helmet. Most bubs will be about one year old before they can do this.

The baby sling would probably work, but there is still a significant chance of a fall.  Is it worth the risk?

I would wait until your baby can handle the helmet. There are places in the world were it is not legal to ride with an infant under 12 months.

Once your child can handle the helmet, there is a whole range of products that can be used to transport them safely on a bicycle. There are bicycle mounted seats both front and rear, side cars and there are trailers.

My preference is the trailer the biggest advantage is that if you take a tumble the child does go with you. They are also very comfortable and give you stacks of room for all that baby gear you need to take with you.

  3. I have seen lots of people riding with different gadgets to take their child with them.

If there is an constant argument about bike safety / helmet wearing, I just feel that riding with a baby on a bicycle is pushing it a bit too far. The smaller they are, the more I fear when I see them.

Then again on some bike trails, on very safe roads for cycling, an older kid, well maybe.... But, personally, loving and enjoying cycling as much as I do, I would not ride with a small child on my bike.

Well, that is just me you know.

  4. The best child carrier that I have seen is from a company named Centric Haven out of Canada the model was WeeRide it is a center mount so that you can see & talk to the baby while riding. this carrier sold for $129 at Bike Shops, but Walmart made a deal with them and they sell for $55 now. It has a shoulder harness to keep the baby safely in place. You should check with your baby's doctor to see if your baby is developed enough at 4 months old (seems too young).
