Question:

Riding bicycle with sandles on. Is it dangerous?

I ride my bike 10-20 miles every day for exercise. My legs are tan, but my feet are WHITE!!! Is it safe to ride my bike with flip-flops on so my feet match my legs? I know we used to ride in sandles all summer when we were kids but back then we rode without helmets also. So what are the risks, and how safe/unsafe is it?

  1. They sell cycling sandals. Google it and you'll find a few.

I know Giro has a few. I can't remember the names though.

  2. It's far safer than riding without a seat.  Seriously, it's as safe as you make it.  There are lots of safer ways to tan your feet, but even that may not be safe in the long run.

  3. I'm not entirely sure, but the manual for the bike always tells you to not wear open toed shoes when riding a bide. If your careful, then I don't see a problem with it, but I think they just put that on there so they won't get sued.

  4. I rode my bike while wearing flip flops as a kid.  My foot slipped off of the pedal and swing into the spokes.  A spoke went between my toes and split it open to the bone.  I had to have it stitched back together.

Imaging kicking at your spokes with bare feet and having a spoke split your foot.

    Yes, it is dangerous.

  5. Ouch. My toes curled under in fear at the thought....

Aside from the obvious risks of unintended dismounts on rocks or other sharp objects,  power transfer isn't very good, and its very hard on your feet and arch if you're going hard or far.    You're probably not getting much exercise value for the time spent.

    But suit yourself.

  6. It's unsafe in my opinon. The Sandal can always get cought with the rotating wheel and you can fall off the bike or hit your...private part on the front of the bike. Possibly, if you fall of the bike, and you feet get stuck, let's just say it's not a pretty sight...You might loose some toes or even your leg! DON'T DO IT!

  7. If you're just riding around casually, then there is really no need to worry.  I think the risks (like a stubbed toe) are no worse than wearing sandals while walking.  Just make sure they stay on when you stop and put your foot down!  :)

Of course, if you're riding more aggressively, then shoes or riding shoes are best.  But that doesn't seem to be your issue.

  8. s ofcourse.donot risk urself

  9. as long as you dont crash and your feet dont slip out of them you should be fine.
