Question:

Riding bike to work....helmet hair?

I'm riding my bike to work, and was hoping there might be some advice out there on how to somehow avoid helmet hair, or a hairstyle that would not look too heinous after wearing a helmet. I work as a barista so it doesn't have to look super professional, just decent. Also, my hair is long enough to go in a ponytail, but not long enough to make something like a side ponytail look okay. Well, even if my hair looks like c**p at least I will have reduced my carbon emissions.

Odd place to ask, since it's beauty related, but I wanted people who had experience to answer.

  2. I have pretty long hair for a guy, and found that using a real thin head scarf kept things from looking too odd when I got where I was going.

If you are serving food and coffee, can't you wear one of those cute baseball style hats with the local ball clubs name, hiding your hair?  Thats what the coffee folks do at my Whole Foods.

  3. Depends on the hair and how sweaty you get.  I've found that helmet hair actually can look good!  I have fine, fly away hair so putting on the helmet helps matt it down just enough to look normal.  Then it's a quick comb with a little water.

You could keep a spritzer bottle and a brush at work and do a quick spray and brush through to look normal again.  A pony tail is cool and you'll know the flyaways on the side will be kept in place.

I think it's way cool you are riding to work.  See you in the bike lane!

  4. I ask the barber for a crew-cut (#2). My head is fuzzy!

  5. LOL! Wish I had a hair problem!

  6. You can try wearing a (thin, headscarf type, not a woolly one!) scarf tied around your head - I do this mostly to keep my ears warm but it also means that my helmet hair problems can be solved with a quick brush.
