Question:

Riding motorcycle with only a permit?

Hi, I live in NYS. I was wondering what would happen if I was caught riding a motorcycle with only a motorcycle learner's permit. I'm turning 16 soon so I would like to find out before hand. That is, without anyone riding within a quarter mile of me. In other words, if I was riding solo and I was to get pulled over, would I just get a ticket or would they tow my bike? Also, what would the worst case scenario be if I only had a learner's permit for a car. Would it be any different if I had a license for a car?

  1. there shouldn't be a problem if you have a motorcycle's permit. How else will you learn how to ride? I only have my permit now and Im allowed to drive anywhere I want. Only 3 restrictions with a motorcycle's permit. 1. you can't ride on freeways. 2. you can't carry a passenger. and 3. you can't drive out at night.

other than that, you can ride where ever you want during day light hours. Just be careful. My buddy has his permit too and already got cited for speeding. You'll just get a ticket but they won't tow your bike away unless you violated one of the restrictions. And you probably will have to wait a longer period of time before you get license too. Just be careful... especially with the ny traffic..

  2. Fine  maybe court costs loose your  permit, take the bike.

  4. worst case = take your bike away. which is very common here in nyc.
