Riding the Amtrak TX Eagle from Austin to Ft Worth...?

I will be traveling alone with my two boys on a 4.5 hour train ride for the first time. I have never been on a train so if anyone has any pointers or things I should know before I get on I would really appreciate it. Also, are the trains ever on time??

I ride the Texas Eagle a lot and will be on it in 3 weeks from Chicago to San Antonio. You will love it. The food is great and most of the people are very friendly. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride up to Ft. Worth

Well, Amtrak is almost always at least a few minutes late since it operates most of its trains over private rail lines, including its Texas Eagle.   Having said that, you should have an enjoyable, relaxing trip and while you may not get there as fast as if you flew, train travel is almost always more relaxing and less hectic then flying.
