So i own a pair of kerrits supreeme riding tights. They are great for spring and summer but i get cold in the fall and winter. So what do i wear for then. I want to buy winter breeches, but i have a question about them. Do all breeches come to mid calf then you just wear tall socks with them or do some come all the way down like riding tights? Also is that what i should get for winter riding. And I do wear tall socks with them right? because i will be wearing paddock boots and half chaps so i dont want a patch of bear skin under my half chaps.. THanks

also i ride dressage and jumping

  1. I would just buy jodphurs. They go all the way down to your ankle and yes, you wear long socks. Thw half chaps keep your lower leg even warmer as well. Good luck with jods!

  2. I would recomend u to wear long underwear kind of thing i dont know what its called but u can wear them under thats what i do.

    good luck

i know it sounds stupid but it works and its pretty cheap

  3. I'm so happy I winter down south now. But I rode and trained for many years up north, and I have to say the new winter breeches they make with Polartec fabric are really worth the price. They insulate you better than anything else, and they mimic the feel of normal breeches instead to give you close contact with the saddle. I spent my winters in those types of breeches, thick socks, and Mountain Horse Ice Rider boots (they're insulated, as well). I don't know about you, but my feet always froze in my normal boots come winter, and as a trainer I spent 8 or more hours a day outside and in the barns.

  4. I don't know what your talking about, but I know it's horse-riding-wear. If you go onto google and you type in winter breeches there are some decent ones, in other words they exist. I don't know where to get them but I'm sure if you ask the person who sells you your horse-riding-wear they'll have some or at least know where to get one.~^^

  5. you could always wear thermal 'long johns' (trousers) under your riding tights. For the winter, i would suggest that you buy some decent breeches or jodhpurs that are of a winter weight. In the winter i wear winter weight breeches and thermals under neath them, i then wear long socks and long mountain horse boots.

  6. I typically ride in jeans with my paddock boots and half chaps, but I do own some Ariat breeches that I ride in sometimes. They come all the way down. They're not the most comfortable though. They feel kind of stiff. You should just try some on and see which ones you like the best.

  7. Breeches often come down to the ankle, but it's still a good idea to wear long socks, just to prevent any chafing in case the curl up a bit.

Breeches are also probably warmer than tights, but it all depends on the make. Go to your local tack store and ask for winter breeches that will keep you warm during the colder months.

  8. I have a pair of Tuff Rider Winter Full Seats.  They have Polartec Fleece on the inside, next to your skin, and an abraision resistent outside.  They work really well... I usually wear thermal underwear under them as well, just because I get really cold and so does Minnesota!  You can find them at doversaddlery.com just type "winter riding breeches" in the search, and they should come up, along with some other brands.

    Hope this helps!

  9. I just wear thermals under my regular breeches and it seems to keep me warm. Sometimes its harder to get my boots on with an extra layer, though. You could probably get breeches that are for winter riding and it might be worth it depending on where you live. Since I live in Texas, I would probably only use winter breeches a few days a year, and I just don't think it's worth spending money on breeches I would use so seldom.

Some breeches come all the way down to the ankle. That's what I prefer and I wear tall socks with them.

  10. By riding tights I guess you mean jodhpurs? Anyhoo, get some thicker ones for winter, or wear a pair of tights underneath (like, ladies tights that you can get from Tesco). This makes the world of difference. Breeches are usually worn under long boots or half chaps with long socks.

Also, I'd get a pair of full chaps for winter; no good for competing but great for the yard!

ADD: What does being 16 have to do with wearing jodhpurs? :-S Anyway! A few suggestions:

Get some thicker 'riding tights' (I've never heard of them, I'm in UK maybe we don't have them!)

Wear tights (ladies tights) under your existing riding tights

Buy thick breeches (mid calf, knee patch)

Buy thick jodhpurs (down to ankle, knee patch)

    Buy some full chaps!

Hope I helped :-) Feel free to email me if you need to clarify anything :-)

    xx
