Rie Kaneto captures Women’s 100m breaststroke title – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Rie Kaneto of Japan captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Japanese swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the four-lap breaststroke discipline and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
She faced tough battle from her compatriot, Mio Motegi throughout the race but with her astounding efforts, Kaneto managed to outperform her over the finishing end for gold medal.
With her commendable form, Kaneto remained just a touch ahead of her following swimmer as she earned her way to the podium for the crown by submitting a time of 1 minute and 06.18 seconds.
The champion was followed by Motegi, who stayed only 0.01 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 06.19 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Maria Temnikova of Russia, who stayed one and a half body length behind and occupied bronze medal of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 07.55 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jenna Laukkanen of Finland, who remained 0.29 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 07.84 seconds.
Laukkanen was traced by Anna Belousova of Russia, who stayed marginally slower from her foregoing finisher and earned fifth best place of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 08.00 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Miku Kanasashi of Japan, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.18 seconds.
Kanasashi was chased by Ekaterina Uymenova of Russia, who was considerably slower from her former finisher and finished seventh in the race with a timing of 1 minute and 08.87 seconds.
Uymenova was traced by Natalia Vinokurenkova of Russia, who was 0.82 seconds apart and ended eighth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 09.69 seconds.
Furthermore, Kaneto was pleased with her form and raked medal for her performance after the event.
