Rie Kaneto grabs Women’s 200m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Rie Kaneto of Japan grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday, October 14.
The Japanese swimmer spoiled the party of her opponents in the distant breaststroke race and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal.
With her quickest response to the start, Kaneto went full rampant in the eight-lap discipline and remained prominent over her opponents for the title. She stayed in a lead of almost four body lengths over her closest competitor and hit the wall for the crown
with a timing of 2 minutes and 21.09 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Joline Hostman of Sweden, who stayed 3.63 seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 24.72 seconds.
Similarly, the Swedish swimmer also remained comfortably ahead of her toughest challenger, Miku Kanasashi of Japan, who surfaced on the wall for bronze medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 26.43 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Elin Martensson of Sweden, who was only 0.30 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and emerged on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 26.73 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Sara Thyden, who was 0.64 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 27.37 seconds.
Subsequently, Thyden was followed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who was 1.20 seconds behind and appeared on the wall by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 28.57 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Jessica Eriksson, who stayed more than half a body length behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 29.28 seconds.
Eriksson was chased by Shani Stallard of Ireland, who stayed significantly away from her former finisher and reported a time of 2 minutes and 33.39 seconds for eighth spot.
In addition, Kaneto was delighted with her undisputed form and obtained her medal after the race.
