Rie Kaneto secures Women’s 200m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Rie Kaneto of Japan secured gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The Japanese swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline and spoiled the party of her challenger by capturing the title. She showered her expertise in the eight-lap discipline and proved her eligibility for the crown.
Kaneto enjoyed a half body length lead over her closest competitor and transpired on the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 19.96 seconds.
The champion was chased by Mio Motegi of Japan, who was 0.61 seconds behind and secured silver medal of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 20.57 seconds.
Motegi was traced by f***y Lecluyse of Belgium, who remained two and a half body lengths behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 22.93 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was chased by Vanessa Grimberg, who remained prominently behind and concluded her race in fourth best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 25.98 seconds.
Fifth spot of the race was obtained by Elin Martensson of Sweden, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 26.39 seconds.
Martensson faced tough competition from Laura Simon in the race but escaped her over the finishing wall for fifth place. Simon remained 1.14 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 27.53 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Miku Kanasashi of Japan, who was 1.12 seconds apart and sprinted her way towards the wall for seventh position with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.65 seconds.
Kanasashi was traced by Margarethe Hummel, who remained almost four body lengths behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 32.38 seconds.
In addition, Kaneto was overjoyed with her title claiming effort and articulated her desire of making her fans proud by achieving the same at elite swimming competitions.
